Glaze (Surface Treatments)

A Glaze is a surface application of materials, often indented to become liquid glass when brought to temp.

Here are some glazes I have tested and approved (Let’s assume the source of each is the anonymous potter.) [PICTURES TO COME!…]

__1___Fire Yellow (potentially food-safe)
Custer Feldspar – 33
Choice Kaolin – 33
Dolomite – 16.5
Whiting – 26.4
Tin Oxide – 3.6
Bone Ash (organic [Di-phosphate{vs Tri-phosphate}]) – 5.3
Red Iron Oxide – .66
Rutile – 1.3

Comments – Bland Matte, Light Brown Orange, Dull, yet appealing…

___2__Woo Yellow (not food safe-High Barium)
Minspa (Kona F4) – 35.9
Barium Carbonate – 27.2
Zinc Oxide – 16.3
Dolomite – 13
Choice Kaolin – 8
Red Iron Oxide . 3.3
Bentonite – 2.2

Comments – Edges flash red brown, quite pretty matte, yellow brown reduction

Comments – Runnny. Beautiful deep blue to deep teal

Comments – Bright opaque sky blue in Oxidation, Reduction is copper red and blue to white spotting

Comments – Glacier like, not matte, not clear, not shiny, not opaque, Quite Pretty.

Comments – in reduction vanadium will often turn green-like, Oxidation this is Yellow

__7___Runny Turquoise Matte

Copper Carb. – 2.75
+try adding other colorants too @~ 2.5%

Comments – This is very runny and doubtfully foodsafe, But very fun.

___8__Clear Base (this is my go-to for safe interiors.)

Comments – I like to mix and apply it Thin Thin Thin, about 50% Water, shaking the wet glaze off easily thins the coating, adding small amount of silicon carbide may result in an appealing "micro-crawling" or rippling effect (further investigation required 🙂

__9___Colorant Glarble Base
Colorant(stain) – 21.4

Choice Kaolin – 21.4

Comments – Further Investigation Required, Bubbly, flashes, Based on the Flarble, but recipe calls for less colorant

Comments – Lithium causes bubbly,
